Comparing 2 sonhs Part 2 Not Allowed by TV Girl and Oh Ana by Mother Mother

Alex D

Hello my name is Alex and I will be comparing and contrasting 2 songs. 1 being Not Allowed by TV Girl   and the second being Oh Ana Mother Mother. Before we start I will say there is a trigger warning for both these songs.

First lets look at Not Allowed by TV Girl. The lyrics are as follows:

Now you suck

We wanna talk about sex but we’re not allowed

Well, we may not like it but you better learn how

‘Cause it’s your turn now

Boy, you’re wasting your tongue with lame excuses and lies

So how should I begin this?

I guess it started when you were with him

And how he never even took you out to dance

But did he fuck with any rhythm?

But now he’s playing with your head

But did he ever make you cum?

Did he ever make you cry?

Do the wires in your mind get sewn together

Rubbed and severed by the heat

You don’t know how long I could stare into your picture

And wish that it was me

I guess it’s different ’cause you love him

But I’ve got an interactive

Sick and twisted imagination

And that’s gotta count for something

We wanna talk about sex but we’re not allowed

Well, you may not like it but you’d better learn how

‘Cause it’s your turn now

You’re wasting your tongue with lame excuses and lies

Get your face between my thighs

I dreamt I was standing in your doorstep

Licking sweat off of your forehead

With your finger in my mouth

And the sound when leather jackets hit the ground

You should hear when you’re not around

When it’s just us horny poets

Who can’t wait to write it down

Swear we were only being being honest

Do you like these little sonnets

‘Cause I wrote them just for you

How quickly they turn sour

So be careful who you screw

And never call

And I’m starting to suspect

You don’t intend to do anything you say at all

We wanna talk about sex but we’re not allowed

Well, we may not like it but you’d better learn how

‘Cause it’s your turn now

You’re wasting your tongue with lame excuses and lies

All by himself, sittin’ alone

I hope we’re still friends, yeah, I hope you don’t mind

All by himself, sittin’ alone

I hope we’re still friends, yeah, I hope you don’t mind

All by himself, sittin’ alone

I hope we’re still friends, yeah, I hope you don’t mind

All by himself, sittin’ alone

I hope we’re still friends, yeah, I hope you don’t mind

All by himself, sittin’ alone

I hope we’re still friends, yeah, I hope you don’t mind

All by himself, sittin’ alone

I hope we’re still friends, yeah, I hope you don’t mind

All by himself, sittin’ alone

I hope we’re still friends, yeah, I hope you don’t mind

All by himself, sittin’ alone

I hope we’re still friends, yeah, I hope you don’t mind

As we can see it is about a girl being used and only thought abit for her body. It is manipulation  at it’s finest.  She is trying to remain to her morals but as she gets manipulated her morals become foggy. She would do anything for this guy.

Now let us look at Oh Ana by Mother Mother. These are the lyrics:

I’ll be God

I’ll be God

I’ll be God

I’ll be God, today

Hold my head under the bath and breathe away

Slit my wrists and watch that blood evaporate

Being this Godly can’t be good for Ana’s safety, Ana hear me

I’ll play God

I’ll play God

I’ll play God

I’ll play God, today

Ante up and play that God a poker game

Walk away with all our little God’s spare change

Playing this God it can’t be good for Ana’s safety, Ana hear me

Oh, Ana, I’ll be with you still

You are the angel that I couldn’t kill

I’ll fake God

I’ll fake God

I’ll fake God

I’ll fake God today

Hop up on a cloud and watch the world decay

Ana on my shoulders and we’ll laugh away

Faking this God it can’t be good for Ana’s safety

Ana hear me, Ana baby, I’m not crazy

Oh Ana, oh Ana, oh Ana

I’ll be with you still

You are the angel that I couldn’t kill

Kill, kill, kill, kill

Oh Ana, I’ll be with you still

You are the angel that I couldn’t kill

Ana, I’ll be with you still

You are the angel that

I couldn’t kill

I couldn’t kill

I couldn’t kill

I couldn’t kill

No, I couldn’t kill

No, I couldn’t kill

No, I couldn’t kill, Ana

Oh, Ana

As we can see This song follows a boy who is obessive with this girl Ana. He would do anything for her. It does not matter what. At this end of this song we Ana being threatened then the guy regretting his words and knowing he could never kill her. Yet he does not tell her this. She was being manipulated and forced into a relationship.

As we look at both songs, they both sow manipulation and cruelity. It shows the amount of struggling they all have o go through. It  shows the idea that manipulation happens more often then you think. In conclusion,  Both songs show manipulation yet in different ways.
