Spring has sprung and it’s almost summer!! School will be out soon and the sun will be shining. The beaches will be packed, the days will feel longer. Some people will be going on trips, others will be staying at home. Spring and summer are awesome!
However, spring and summer can sometimes be very boring. School keeps students very busy but even with school going on, especially during the weekends and with April Vacation on the horizon, teens can get very bored in their environments. People can get tired of doing the same things.
Are you bored? Do you have nothing to do? Do you want something new and different?
We’ve all been there. There feels like there is nothing interesting happening in the world and you feel like all that you can do is just sit around and doom scroll.
But why do that when there is so much to do right in your city. We’ve got you covered. Read more to hear about five things to do right in Waltham this spring and summer.
1. Go to the Waltham Lions Club Carnival

Go to the carnival! Don’t miss out!
2. Check out the Sheep Shearing Festival
——————————————————————————
Contrary to the name, sheep shearing is not all this festival offers. While you can witness sheep free themselves of their coats and get ready for summer like the rest of us, there is so much more that is offered at the Sheep Shearing Festival.
The festival is located at Gore Place on 52 Gore St, Waltham MA. It will be held on Saturday, April 26 from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Admission is $20.00 for people ages 13 and up. Kids ages 12 and under are admitted for free. You can buy tickets when entering the event or you can buy them beforehand online.
The festival has a lot to offer, all on the 50-acre estate. There will be tons of handmade arts and crafts to purchase at stands. There will also be live music and food stands throughout the event. Food will also be available for purchase at many different stands.
Sheep aren’t the only animals that will be there. The event also commonly, though not always, has goats, alpacas, horses, bunnies, and sheep herding dogs (who present their skills). Though sheep aren’t the only animals there, that isn’t an invitation to bring your pets as dogs are not allowed.
The sheep shearing festival is an all around fun day. Clear your schedule and be there!
3. Attend the famous Steampunk Festival
————————————————————————————–
The steampunk festival is one of the most popular festivals that happens yearly in Waltham. And it is also one of the most interesting. The event started in 2010 and was held inside the Charles River Museum of Industry and Innovation. The next year it was held outside on the common as a two day event. In 2015 it once again became a one day event and has been held yearly, one day, on the common since.
The Steampunk Festival is located on Waltham Common, right next to Waltham City Hall at 610 Main street. The event this year is on May 10th and it is from 10am to 5pm. And admission is free, making the experience even better!!
What exactly is steampunk? Steampunk is a genre of science fiction that has a historical setting and that typically features steam-powered machinery rather than modern technology. This year’s steampunk festival theme is “Monsters on the loose”.
On the common you can find all sorts of characters and costumes from pirates such as Jack Sparrow to knights of the round table. Mad scientists and inventors roam through the festival. These costumes are intricate and interesting and many are made by the people.
At the festival there are hundreds of stands selling all sorts of merchandise from candles, to wands, to antiques. Artwork, to knick – knacks, books, to swords and shields. The festival truly is a menagerie of everything steampunk and it is very impressive to see.
As well as these stands there are also costumed performers, live music, and food vendors. There is never a dull moment at the steampunk festival.
Even if you aren’t a part of the steampunk community, or if you aren’t interested in science fiction, the steampunk festival is quite an interesting experience. Check it out!
4. Go see a show at Reagle Music Theatre
———————————————————————————————
Once again the famous Reagle Music Theatre will be having shows during the summer. Reagle Music Theatre was founded in 1969 by Robert Eagle and has had celebrities from the theatre world perform there such as Shirley Jones, Sally Struthers, Rachel York, Brent Barrett, and Anita Gillette.
This theatre is very familiar to many people in the Waltham community, especially in the Waltham high school community, as the theatre is located at 617 Lexington street in Waltham MA, the location of the old Waltham high school.
This summer Reagle will be producing three shows. Beautiful: The Carole King Musical will be happening from June 13th to 22nd. Evita will be playing from July 11th to 20th. Lastly, Newsies will be performing from August 8th to 17th.
You can buy tickets online or at the door. Though, if you want to see the show for free you can volunteer. Volunteer jobs include ushering, scanning tickets, and helping with concessions during intermission.
Don’t miss out on these amazing performances and go watch a show!!

5. Go see the Waltham Lions Club Car Show
——————————————————————————
Do you like cars? Well this next event is just for you.
Another event from the Waltham Lions Club, the car show will be on August 24th. The event will take place at 1601 Trapelo Road in Waltham MA. The event will take place from 9am to 2pm.
At this event you can see cars from multiple different decades and admire the beauty of these vehicles. In addition to the cars there will also be a live band, food vendors, raffles, and more.
The car show is a very cool event. There are so many cars to see and it’s nice to spend time outside and meet new people at the event. You’d be surprised how many stories can be behind a car.
Drive on down to the car show on August 24th.
