Student Santa: Reviving a Tradition

Martin Mont and Justin Carrington

Student Santa is an annual event where students raise money to buy gifts for kids in need. Students in any homeroom can donate money to their student reps, who will buy gifts for their kid. Later, each homeroom will wrap their presents and put them on the stage of the auditorium. After the presents are wrapped and put on stage an assembly will be held to celebrate the success of the fundraiser.

The band, orchestra, and choir will provide lively holiday music that the rest of Waltham high’s student population can sing along to. The student Santa event helps rally Waltham highschool students under the one goal of donating money and buying presents for kids that are in need this holiday season.

Student Santa takes place right before we depart for christmas break. This year, it’s going to be on Wednesday which will relieve a bit of the tension that week can cause students, as we all want to leave for break. About a week before the event, student reps in each homeroom will spend time using the money collected from donations to purchase gifts that are relevant for the specific child that they are sponsoring.

Last year due to Covid-19, there was not a student Santa pep rally. This was a huge loss for the people that this event help and also for the student at WHS because its a fun way to feel like your a part of something bigger in an exiting time of the year. For almost half of the student body, this will be their first student Santa so donate, have fun, and enjoy the memories.
